The CA Department of Insurance has completed a handful of Town Hall meetings this week and last via County specific webinars.  County Supervisor Cindy Chavez hosted the Santa Clara County Town Hall with Commissioner Lara last week.  Here’s some key take-aways (much of the dialog was re: Workers Comp and P&C).

  • There will be return of premium (or premium credits) on many policies based on new risk adjustment dynamic under SIP (examples Workers Comp, personal car insurance).
  • Carriers are required to investigate all inquiries regarding business interruption coverage (insuring business losses).  He recommended filing a claim even if a policy doesn’t specify the clause including policies that appear to provide such a coverage clause even if “Virus” is an exclusion.
  • Health Insurance carriers are expected to provide better Tele-Med access and following multiple inquiries, the Department of Insurance has mandated that Tele-Med provider claims (mostly Dr’s and Nurses) be paid within 30 days.
  • The commissioner recommended that policy holders do not sign or agree to any insurance policy claim, settlement or statement that seems questionable or unfair without consulting with his office first. The Department of Insurance has live investigators available on staff at (800) 927-4357 with whom you can speak.
